One of Trust House’s biggest assets is that we serve the entire family. We offer activities for parents and children to participate in separately and together, fostering a love of learning in the home as well as at our organization. We cater to families individually, addressing their unique situations and enrolling them in programs most beneficial to them. In addition to the regular offerings listed below, we hold various workshops, reading festivals, and other events throughout the year. Check our Events page to see what’s happening in the near future. Descriptions of Family Services program components are as follows:
Early Childhood Education:
While parents study in our Adult Education program, children participate in developmentally appropriate activities that focus on early literacy, exploring the environment, and fostering creativity.
Parents as Teachers (PAT):
Certified parent educators trained in child development conduct personal visits in families’ homes. These visits help parents understand each stage of their child’s development, encourage learning, and begin preparing their child for school. Children’s books are given for use at home and families are assisted with finding community resources.
Screenings:
Screenings are conducted at various developmental stages to identify any difficulties that might arise for a child during school preparation. Referrals are made as needed.
Snuggle-Up:
Snuggle-Up is an interactive parent and child literacy program. During Snuggle-Up parents and children are encouraged to read books together. At the conclusion of each session a free book is given to each child.
Family Fun Camp:
Family Fun Camp was started summer 2005 to give parents and children the opportunity to participate in educational, enjoyable activities together. Past offering include field day and trips to Peabody Museum of Natural History and Lake Compounce. This year camp will expand from two weeks to three weeks.
